How we started
How we started? The story of the childKompass Crew.
Three years ago, a father stepped off the hamster wheel. He took a step back from a super-fast work life to spend more time with his daughter. He expected bonding, presence, and quality time. He found out how little he actually knew.
The more hours he spent, the clearer it became. There were patterns he’d never noticed amid a hectic routine. Some signals were worrying enough to raise real questions about her growth and development.
He dug deeper. What he found was the opposite. It was flashes of giftedness masquerading as difficulty, faculties that simply hadn’t been thoughtfully nurtured. The problem wasn’t his blind spot. It was the missing structure, and a science too hard to reach. ‘We get only eighteen years to build our favorite humans. I guess I already lost a few of those,’ he thought to himself.
He couldn’t sit idle. He talked it over with a friend at lunch. And their conversation ended in a build, not just a plan. That day saw the genesis of childKompass. A scrappy version shipped the following week, to 30 parents – mostly friends and family, just to see if the problem was as universal as they suspected.
It was more universal than they’d imagined. Feedback poured in, and a push for more! One of those thirty parents felt the problem so deeply that he joined full-time as the third co-founder. Since then, a team of like-minded parents from Big Tech has grown around them, thoughtfully supplemented by a Science Advisory Board. They build, they listen, they iterate, and they build again. ‘We owe it to our children’ was the feeling then. It only grows stronger by the day.
They say the compass was invented before the clock. But being in the right direction matters, perhaps more than how long it takes to reach your destination. When it comes to our favorite humans - the direction IS the destination. So today, we’re a small team with a grander vision. ‘We are committed to deploy technology creatively, to enhance the most human aspects of our lives in a meaningful manner.’
